Convertible Top Hydraulics Replaced

Disconnect plug located at pump motor
pigtail. Remove ground wire. I reused the original ground wire for two reasons, it's
original, and in good shape, has correct size eyelet at body ground screw. Remove
both nuts holding the pump assembly to body mount. Remove lines at the bottom of
each ram . Catch any fluid that drains from the hose. Remove front hyd. line at fitting
on pump. Very little fluid will be lost from line at this time, but to be safe, have
a drain pan ready ( a coffee can works well) .

The pump assembly has rubber snubbers on the back side. These snubbers cushion
the jolt as the pump motor is energized. Pull straight up on pump assy. to allow
grommets to slip off the mounting studs. Unscrew line at rear or pump that runs to
the top of rams. Do not remove line from upper ram cylinders. NOTE: The top on this
car was in the down position. Static hydraulic forces (fluid in the lines) prevented
raising of the top manually. With the lines removed at the pump the top can the be
manually raised. Because the rams upper area will still contain fluid, as the top
is raised, fluid will be purged. To avoid excessive spray and splash, raise top slowly.
Have your coffee can ready to catch the fluid (about a pint will escape).

With the top now in the up position, access to the clip and bushings that link
the rams to the top will be gained. Remove the clip and backing washer, then slide
out retaining pin.
